What do you do with the biggest pumpkin in the world? Carve it, of course. The Haunted Pumpkin Gardens, an exhibit at the New York Botanical Gardens containing 500 intricate and scary pumpkin sculptures, features the biggest pumpkin ever recorded as its centerpiece. The pumpkin was grown in Napa Valley, Calif., and weighed 2,035 pounds before artist Ray Villafane started carving it. Villafane transformed the pumpkin to look like a wasp’s nests, with big pumpkin-wasps flying around it. If that wasn’t scary enough, he turned another pumpkin into a carnivorous plant with a long tongue, sharp fangs and vines wrapped around the giant wasps’ nest. Just in case you didn’t have nightmares already. — By Nick Mangione
