CLEVELAND – Bees, wasps and yellow jackets are keeping exterminators busy this time of year.
“This time of year, they get really aggressive. The bees get really aggressive,” said Ben Zaremba. Zaremba should know; he is a landscaper and was stung three times in just one day.
Even though it is almost October, lots of people are battling the buzzing.
“Been busier now coming towards the end of summer,” said Rob Szczeck, with Central Exterminating Company.
“They don’t really care about one or two flying around at the beginning of the summer, then it gets to the end of the summer and the nests are so large they have to call us out to take care of it,” Szczek said.
If you see a nest, you can typically knock it down with the aerosol cans of spray, according to experts. But if you can’t see the nest then it might be time to call in a professional.
“There could be a nest inside the wall, coming in from a crack of around the window sill. We’ve seen them go into vent systems,” Szczek said.
If you are considering using an exterminator, experts said make sure the exterminator is licensed with the Department of Agriculture and is insured.
